Atypical Isolated Infections of the Infratemporal Fossa: A Diagnostic Challenge
Introduction: Atypical infratemporal fossa infections are rare and potentially fatal. Case Report: A case of an aspergillosis localized in the infratemporal fossa and another case of tuberculosis of the infratemporal fossa originating from the maxillary sinus, is described. The first patient was immunocompromised and showed symptoms of facial numbness; whereas the other was an immunocompetent...
متن کاملMerkel Cell Carcinoma of Eyelid: A Rare Clinical Presentation and Diagnostic Challenge
The purpose of this paper is to report a case of rare localised (limited to eyelid) malignant eyelid tumor in a 70 year old Indian male. Histopathology confirmed it to be a Merkel cell carcinoma. Surgical excision and eyelid reconstruction was done successfully. No local or systemic recurrence has been noted at a follow up of 2 years. The well defined nature of a highly malignant tumor, its loc...
متن کاملMerkel Cell Polyomavirus Strains in Patients with Merkel Cell Carcinoma
We investigated whether Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) patients in France carry Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) and then identified strain variations. All frozen MCC specimens and 45% of formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded specimens, but none of the non-MCC neuroendocrine carcinomas specimens, had MCPyV. Strains from France and the United States were similar.

conclusions the findings of this study are consistent with the hypothesis that local, systemic, or tumor-induced immunosuppression may allow the mcpyv to initiate skin aggressive cancer. it is necessary to maintain regular check over patients taking immunosuppressive medications for mcpyv infection. since there is not any information about detection and molecular biology analysis of mcpyv among...
متن کاملDigital Merkel cell carcinoma.
Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare and biologically aggressive neuroendocrine tumour of the skin. Recent analysis of a surveillance, epidemiology and end results program has shown a statistically significant increase of 8% per year in the age-adjusted rates for MCC of the skin over the past 15 years. MCC commonly presents as a painless, rapidly growing, single red or purple cutaneous nodule....
